Understanding the lawmaking process and advocacy

Understanding the lawmaking process and advocacy

Speaker: Maeley Tom & Ron Tom

About the topic

Hear from a former CAO of the State Assembly and a former APIA corporate and community lobbyist how laws are created and passed in the Legislature. An actual case study will be discussed regarding how a Chinese delicacy was almost banned in California and how this delicacy was saved by use of community advocacy to oppose this bill in the legislature.  The session ends with tips on how to be an effective advocate for your issue or community.

The legislation affects everyone’s daily lives, and this session will enrich your knowledge and understanding of the process.
